TJAG E-Letter

January 2015

Many of us have decided to begin our new year with fasting, with resolution and with a desire to be better than we were last year.  Let begin our new year thanking God for inviting us to be here a little longer and realizing that he has a purpose for us.  Ephesians 2:10 states, “For we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do”.    The Message Bible combines other verses and states in Ephesians 2:7-10;

“Now God has us where he wants us, with all the time in this world

 and the next to shower grace and kindness upon us in Christ Jesus.

Saving is all his idea, and all his work. All we do is trust him enough to let him do it.

 It’s God’s gift from start to finish!

We don’t play the major role. If we did, we’d probably go around bragging that we’d done the whole thing!

 No, we neither make nor save ourselves. God does both the making and saving.

He creates each of us by Christ Jesus to join him in the work he does, the good work he has gotten ready for us to do, work we had better be doing”.

Our job then become to trust him enough to let Him do what needs to be done in our life.  Often that is difficult to do because we feel this strong urge to navigate ourselves through our life.  We feel we are in charge and know better than God.  You are not alone, this is something that I think we all go through.  Can we move pass those feelings of, “I know what is best for me!”

Fasting is a wonderful way to help us loose more of us and acknowledge the God in our life.  Therefore, I propose that we all begin by listening to God.  Let’s pray that we listen and hear God with actions.  God does speak to us!

  • When you read his word He speaks.  Sometime you wonder why a particular scripture seems to get your attention more than usual, or why you get something different from a scripture that you have ready many times before.  Listen with actions.  What is God saying to you?
  • A sermon is preached and you feel that the sermon was uniquely identical to your situation.  It was as if someone told the preacher what you were going through.  Listen with actions and follow what God has told you to do in the sermon.
  • Have you ever been petition God for a need and He tells you not to worry, I will fix it.  Later on someone walks up to you and puts something in your hand, or buys you lunch on a day that you did not have any money or lunch, or calls you at a time when you felt all alone and just needed someone to talk to.  Listen with actions.  Saying “thank you” to God is an action.  Acknowledging the source of you blessing is an action.
  • When you started to make a decision and a small voice inside of you says, “Don’t get that now, Don’t go that direction, Leave that person alone, they are not the one, Don’t make that purchase today, Don’t argue back, pray and let Me fight this battle; I got this one, etc.
  • God speak through songs during service, on the radio, through a child, through a brother or sister in Christ.  There was a time that I prayed and kept asking God, when is my time for blessing coming.  When I turned on the radio, the song came on “Season” by Donald Lawrence came on.    Or have you ever wondered why some devastation did not happen and a song like “God Blocked It” by Kurt Carr came on the radio?  Listen with action and believe God has you in his hand.  Believing is an action.
  • Have you been in one of those moments where your mind feels like a race track with cars going different directions at the same time and a praise rise up in your heart to the tune of Casey J’s “Fill Me Up”?  You want God to remove the distractions and fill you up with his spirit because distractions are trying to take your mind away from God.  Expose your weakness to God.

The main message is to ask God to help you listen with actions.  The actions could be simply to believe, do what God says, or simply expose your weaknesses and deficits to God.
